Johnson Sakaja: CUE Officially Revokes Senator’s Degree

Sakaja

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has suffered a setback in his quest to become Nairobi’s next governor following the most recent move by the after the Commission for University Education (CUE).

CUE has officially revoked Sakaja’s degree from Teams University in Uganda.

In a letter addressed to IEBC chairman, Wafula Chebukati, CUE Chief Executive Officer, Mwenda Ntarangwi said they received written information that Sakaja was no admitted in the university.

He also noted that Sakaja did not mention anywhere that he attended Teams University while running for political office in 2017.

As such, Ntarangwi declared that CUE no longer recognizes the Senator’s degree, arguing that the commission did not receive evidence from either the National Council for Higher Education in Uganda or Team University over the same.

“That in Sakaja Johnson Arthur’s official declaration in 2017, while vying for the position of Senator, he indicated that the only higher education qualification he held was a degree from the University of Nairobi

“There was no declaration made pertaining to Team University, from which he now states that he had obtained a degree in 2016,” said CUE.

Ntarangwi also noted that the University of Nairobi has since written to the commission, confirming that Sakaja enrolled at the institution but he did not complete his studies.

“The University of Nairobi has since written to the Commission, confirming that whereas he enrolled for a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science in 2003, he did not complete his studies

“The Commission retains the right to revoke recognition of the award in the event that it establishes any reason that makes the award in question ineligible for recognition and/or equation,” CUE added.

CUE also pointed out that failure of the Senator to provide evidence supporting claims that he attended the institution meant the degree certificate was insufficient.

“At the conclusion of these investigations we have not received any evidence from NCHE, Team University or Sakaja that prove that Sakaja pursued studies at Team University and earned a degree in Bachelor of Science in Management (External)

“Failure to submit even the most basic evidence of study and the process of earning a degree inevitably renders the degree certificate submitted insufficient to prove that Sakaja studied either physically or through distance learning and that he holds an academic degree,” CUE stated.

As earlier reported on GOTTA.news, Sakaja claimed that Commission for University Education (CUE) chair Prof Chacha Nyaigotti-Chacha was intimidated by President Uhuru Kenyatta to declare his certificate null and void.

The Nairobi Senator claimed that of all institutions approached and intimidated by the Head of State, only CUE has succumbed to the intimidations.

“It is also instructive that the letter by CUE has been written and signed by the chairman on the CEO’s letterhead! We are also aware that the commission did not meet to make this decision and it was done by the Chairman under duress

“A day earlier, the CUE Chief Executive Officer replied to an inquiry by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, affirming the authenticity of my credentials and confirming that I am qualified to run for office,” Sakaja added.

He added that following his clearance to contest for Nairobi governor seat, Uhuru sent officials from the Kenyan High Commission in Uganda to intimidate staff at Team University.
