Leipzig University: Netizens Cast Doubt on Raila’s Degree Papers

A debate has ensued on social media, especially Twitter, on whether Azimio One Kenya Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga studied at Leipzig University in Germany.

This follows a report on Nation indicating that the former Prime Minister is named among the notable alumni of the top rated university.

Raila is listed as number 41 among other top individuals including former chancellor of Germany, Angela Markell and renown philosopher Fredric Nietzsche.

Further, the university described Raila as a politician, university teacher and a businessperson before listing his political career.

However, the same has sparked reactions across social media with social media users casting doubts on the authenticity of Raila’s academic papers.

Leipzig University was founded on December 1, 1409 making it among the oldest universities in Europe to offer uninterrupted teaching in the course of its existence.

It also prides itself in being among the pioneer German universities to let women register as guests students.

It has one of the oldest libraries in Germany, established in1543, and three notable museums – Museum of Musical Instruments, Museum of Ancient Egypt, and Museum of Classical Antiquities.

According to Edurank, in terms of alumni prominence, Leipzig University is the 62nd in the world, 20th in Europe and 6th in Germany.

In terms of global ranking, US News ranks it position 350 in Best Global Universities, 151 in Best Global Universities in Europe, and 24 in Best Global Universities in Germany.
