Renowned Kenyan actor Bilal Wanjau is dead. His family and colleagues confirmed Wanjau died while receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.
Wanjau, popularly known for roles in television dramas and stage productions performed under names including Webster Jnr and Afande Kasoro.
He also enjoyed wide recognition from commercials such as “Utahama Lini” as well as series like Tahidi High and Jela 5 Star.
The actor had been battling long-term health problems, sources said.
Colleagues say he had been living with type 2 diabetes and had spent the past week fighting pneumonia while managing a serious wound on his leg.
The actor’s passing was announced publicly by fellow performer Sandra Dacha, who described the loss as “profound” and urged fans to keep the family in their prayers.
Friends and industry contacts have since paid tribute on social media, recalling Wanjau’s warm stage presence and his ability to combine comic timing with pathos.

Wanjau’s illness had forced medical interventions in recent months; several outlets and posts from close associates say he suffered complications linked to diabetes that eventually required the amputation of a leg.
Reports added that hypertension and recurring infections contributed to a deteriorating condition.
Bilal Wanjau leaves behind a body of work that spanned television, film and theatre.
Directors and producers noted his steady presence in Kenyan entertainment- from early commercial breaks that made him a household face to later, more substantial roles on stage and screen, including recent appearances in theatre productions and streaming dramas.
