-Elon Musk claims his Neuralink company has successfully implanted one of its wireless brain chips in a human

-Already, a number of rival companies have implanted similar devices

The sassy tech billionaire Elon Musk says promising brain activity has been detected following the procedure.

He also noted that the patient was recovering well.

Neuralink, which has invested billions  in research, aims to connect human brains to computers to help tackle complex neurological conditions.

“The first human received an implant from @Neuralink yesterday and is recovering well. Initial results show promising neuron spike detection,” Musk posted on X.

The National Institute of Health defines spikes as cells that use electrical and chemical signals to send information within the brain and to the body.

In a subsequent post, Musk said the company’s first product, called Telepathy, will enable users to control their phone, computer, or any device through thinking.

“Enables control of your phone or computer, and through them almost any device, just by thinking.

Initial users will be those who have lost the use of their limbs. Imagine if Stephen Hawking could communicate faster than a speed typist or auctioneer. That is the goal.”

Yet Neuralink has to move with speed as rival companies have already implanted similar devices.

A device by École Polytechnique Fédérale in Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland has successfully enabled a paralysed man to walk just by thinking.
