Brian Mwenda could possibly not have been admitted to the bar, which prevents him from practicing as a High Court advocate.

This is at least what the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) says about Mwenda, who does not even have a law degree.

However, his lack of admission to the real bar did not prevent him from taking refuge in an undisclosed bar (a pub) from where he addressed Kenyans.

In a video shared by former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, the alleged fake lawyer assured Kenyans he would “clear the misunderstanding.”

“I’d like to convey my gratitude to people supporting me and praying for me.”

“In the fullness of time, I would be able to clear up this particular misunderstanding. I would also be able to prove my innocence and provide the actual context of what happened. I want to thank the legal team that Sonko is bringing in,” he said.

He also said he would present himself to a police station before Wednesday next week.

He assured his family that he was well and had not been arrested, as earlier claimed.

“I also want to convey to my family that I’m safe. I’m not currently arrested as reportedly previously.”

Sonko, who accompanied Mwenda, not only promised to bail him out but also slammed netizens for bashing the alleged masquerader.

“All those attacking this friend of mine should stop. This guy has never killed anyone; he is not a terrorist; he is not a criminal. He is just using his brains,” Sonko said.

Mwenda has allegedly been masquerading as an advocate of the High Court and has supposedly represented clients in the High Court and appellate court.

His cover was blown Thursday evening when the LSK Nairobi branch sounded the alarm, cautioning the public about his activities.

“The Branch wishes to notify all members of the society and of the public that Brian Mwenda Njagi is not an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, from the society’s records, neither is he a member of the Branch,” read the statement on X (formerly Twitter).

In another video that got much attention, Mwenda is heard querying the contents of an affidavit from an opposing side.

A short argument ensues, with Mwenda reminding the opposing counsel that “it is not a standard practice.”
