Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) vice chairperson Juliana Cherera has addressed photos of her with Azimio la Umoja leaders.
Cherera is among four IEBC commissioners who distanced themselves from presidential election results announced by Chairman Wafula Chebukati.
Following their rejection of the results, photos of Cherera with Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Azimio principal Raila Odinga emerged online.
It also emerged that she was serving as Joho’s Chief of Staff prior to her appointment to IEBC.
However, reacting to the photos, the commissioner has told Kenyans that her alleged close association with Azimio will not change her stand on the presidential results.
“My colleagues and I have indicated irregularities in the Presidential tallying process
“It is not fair to personalize issues. Photos of me discharging duties in my previous position have nothing to do with the facts we have laid bare,” Cherera said.

The four commissioners led by Cherera maintained that they could not take ownership of the election results.
They argued that the final process of verification of the result was not transparent hence their resistance.
The other commissioners are Francis Wanderi, Justus Nyangaya and Irene Masit.
“We are not at the Bomas of Kenya because we cannot take ownership of the results that are going to be announced because of the opaque nature which these results have been handled,” Cherera stated.

She, however, stated that the IEBC conducted an election that was free, fair and verifiable except for the final process.
