How to reverse Airtel money transaction sent to wrong number

Sending money to a wrong number is one of the major mistakes everyone tries to avoid.

However, this could happen during mobile transactions when you confuse one or more digits.

To avoid the mistake, you need to double-check the recipients number and name before proceeding with transaction.

Yet, if the mistake has happened to you when doing Airtel transactions you don’t have to worry as Airtel allows you to reverse the money.

Here is the process to follow in order to reverse the money sent to a wrong number.

If it is an immediate transaction you will dial;

  • *222#.
  • Select my account.
  • Select reverse wrong transaction.
  • Select initiate transaction reversal.
  • Select last transaction sent.
  • Select option 1 to initiate the transaction.
  • Enter PIN to complete the transaction. (The wrong recipient will receive a pop up message to approve the reversal).

If the transaction is older you will dial;

  • *222#.
  • Select my account.
  • Select reverse wrong transaction.
  • Select initiate transaction reversal.
  • Select other transaction sent.
  • Enter the Airtel Money transaction id.
  • Enter PIN to complete the transaction. (The wrong recipient will receive a pop up message to approve the reversal).

However, it should be noted that reversing money can only happen if the recipient who wrongly received the money has it intact on his or her account.

If the funds have been used or the recipient receives any other transactions immediately after your money, then the reverse will fail.

The reversal process takes up to 48 hours for the funds to show up on your account.
