A good number of Kenyan politicians are funny and witty. In fact, it is not far-fetched to imagine issuing hilarious statements is part of the requirement to be a lawmaker in Kenya.
Here is the list of eight funniest mps as compiled by Githinji Muriuki, a GOTTA.news ardent reader from Mombasa.
The list does not follow any particular order.

Mwambu Mabonga
The Bumula MP’s eloquence in “I Refuse to Piliv” (I refuse to believe) speech is legendary. In yet another speech at a church fundraiser attended by Deputy President William Ruto, Mabonga shows his deep knowledge of the Bible, appropriately inserting verses to prove that indeed DP Ruto is the right man to succeed Uhuru Kenyatta.
But it’s how the Bumula legislator begins his speech in the now-viral video that get’s attention of senior pastors at the event.
The ‘Bumula’s Martin Lutherking Jr’ opens his speech with blatant sarcasm aimed at DP Ruto’s detractors: ” Sisi ni wezi..”…” ahsante kwa kubali kukaa na wezi. (We (team Ruto are thieves).

Reuben Ndolo
The former Makadara MP is on this list as an outstanding alumnus. After the fallout between Kibaki and Raila Odinga in 2005, Ndolo would seize every opportunity to throw jibes at the retired president, especially chiding the president on his silence about his “two wives.”
At one time, Ndolo got into trouble with the then Interior Security Minister John Michuki which saw Ndolo churn the memorable rhyme: “Michuki ana chuki kama mkuki”
At one another time, Ndolo got into trouble for asking his constituents to burn down vehicles belonging to a state utility company.
The legislator however wiggled out of trouble after he changed tune claiming his “weka tire” remark did not mean to burn down the lorries but had asked his constituents to assist in changing the tires if they ever broke down within the constituency.
Didmus Barasa
The Kimilili MP was confidently-scared when he was confronted by a fellow legislator Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati and asked ” unataka kukimbia?” (do you want to run)
But Barasa who is accused of conning youths millions to assist them to join the military replied appropriately: “We’re Koliks” (we’re colleagues).
But Arati quickly worked on Barasa in an incident that saw the latter losing his trademark cap.
However, on Twitter, Barasa exhibits the bravery of a lion. It is not uncommon to hear him threaten retreat to the bush should ‘dynasties steal Deputy President William Ruto’s victory in 2022.’
William Chepkut
The Ainabkoi legislator is funny to boot. From his eclectic dances to speeches, Chepkut is no doubt one of the funniest legilators.
Chepkut is best remembered for lighting up the late Nicholas Biwott’s burial ceremony with humour in July 2017. He cracked the ribs of mourners after claiming Biwott, popularly known as “Total Man” had in his last words instructed the Kalenjin community to re-elect him and President Uhuru.
Oscar Sudi
The Kapseret MP is among the few legislators known to tell off President Uhuru Kenyatta, PS Kibicho and Fred Matiang’i.
What’s more, when journalists encounter Sudi, they ask him all manner of questions under the sun and trust Sudi to give a comment.
The legislator will tell off Uhuru for his “dictatorship” and preach peaceful co-existence among various communities in the Rift Valley – all in one press conference.
All said and done, Sudi, a former matatu conductor known for his “Fiongosi wa Ponde la Ufa” (leaders from Rift Valley) and “mimi nataka kusema hivi” refrains, enjoys the support of a good chunk of Kenyans for speaking to power without sugar coating.
Joshua Kuttuny
The Cherangany MP is no doubt the king of old school sheng. He’s known to work up crowds in rallies with his his hilarious stories narrated in sheng.
But one thing is clear: the “Niponge nisiponge” man has not updated his sheng vocabulary for over a decade.
Millie Odhiambo
The Mbita lawmaker is known for bashing President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2016 calling him “fisi” (hyena) and all manner of names.
In 2014, Gesa Gesa caused a stir in Parliament after she alleged that women were given jobs depending on the size and curve of their sitting apparatus.

Then, the legislator alleged that during interviews for top government jobs, men in the interviewing panels would be stealing glances at the ladies’ “rearguard” ostensibly to determine if the interviewee “qualified for the job!”
Babu Owino
The Embakasi East legislator is known for funny statements. Long before Kenyans knew of Babu Owino’s mathematical prowess, the legislator in 2016 warned Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria against threatening ODM leader Raila Odinga.
He said:
“We are telling and warning you Ngunjiri and Moses Kuria that our revolution is coming and we are looking for you. And if we get you, we will deal with you cacophonously and multiply you by zero and raise you to power infinity.”
In April, 2020, Babu Owino caused a stir after insisting that candidates should only be tested on what they had been taught before the COVID-19 pandemic.
The flamboyant ODM legislator said Education CS George Magoha must submit the exams to his office in his capacity as the secretary general of young parliamentarians for verification before they are rolled out.
“As the secretary general for young parliamentarians, the education CS George Magoha must submit the papers to me in advance so that I can verify if they have tested what has not been taught,” he said.
Upon prodding by journalists on how exactly he was going to verify the exams, the first-time MP said he was one learned man with two degrees, two masters degrees and had passed with flying colours in both primary school and high school.

However, a section of Kenyans have on many occasions condemned the legislator for his abrasive personality.
