Pocket-friendly places to live in Nairobi

Choosing where to live when moving to Nairobi is a huge decision and tiring especially when looking for a place to settle.

It also has a huge impact on how comfortable one feels in the new surrounds and on how successful the relocation will be.

Crime rates, quality of local schools, traffic, housing trends, and access to amenities are among the major factors to take into consideration before moving.

In no particular order, below are pocket friendly places to live in the country’s capital;

Kikuyu

Kikuyi is one of the fastest growing areas in Nairobi and is preferred by many due to its affordability.

Being the only town that is on the bypass, the fare to and fro the CBD is affordable for the working class.

A one bedroom house goes for KSh 13,000 to KSh 16,000, while a bedsitter goes for an average of KSh 7,000.

Roysambu

The town situated along Thika Road is inhabited by both middle-class and lower-class with most of them being fresh graduates.

The town also plays host to one of Kenya’s largest malls, Thika Road Mall.

Its close proximity to the Thika Superhighway is a plus for people working in the city.

A one bedroom house goes for KSh15, 000 to KSh 20, 000 per month, while a bedsitter goes for between KSh 8, 000 to KSh12,000

Uthiru

Uthiru is one of the cheapest estatede to live in as it plays host to both middle-class and lower-class.

In Uthiru, a one bedroom house goes for between KS 8,000 to KSh13,000, while a bedsitter goes for between KSh 5,000 to KSh 8,000.

Ruaka

Situated at the Western end of the Nothern Bypass, Ruaka is known for affordable houses and its close proximity to the iconic Two Rivers Mall.

Here, a one bedroom house goes for KSh 15,000 to KSh 20,000 per month while a bedsitter will cost one KSh 7,000 to KSh 10,000 per month.

Embakasi

The residential estate is inhabited by both middle-class and lower-class people as it also plays host to Mukuru Kwa Njenga informal settlement.

It is also home to a numbere of recreational facilities as well as the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

A one bedroom house goes for KSh 10,000 to KSh 15, 000, while a bedsitter goes for between KSh 6,000 to KSh 9,000.

Mlolongo

Situated along Mombasa road, Mlolongo is a favourite among many Kenyans as seen from the over 6,000 inhabitants who reside there.

It has affordable houses with a one bedroom going for an average of between KSh 8,500 to KSh15,000, while a bedsitter will cost you about KSh 6,500 a month.
