Popular Kikuyu singer Muigai wa Njoroge first wife has opened up about what she went through after her husband married a second wife.
In a tell-all interview with Kameme FM, Gladys Njeri Muigai revealed that polygamy was her greatest fear since her days in marriage.
She said she had even warned her husband that she would walk out of marriage if he brought home a second wife.
“I fought him. I went through a phase of stress that, at one time, I even considered unaliving myself. I could not come to terms with the fact that my husband had married a second wife,” she said.
Njeri said Muigai left their Mwihoko home in Githurai 45 and left her with children as the rift between the two escalated.
She said the rift and a sense of loneliness and lost self-esteem pushed her into heavy drinking.
“I became a drunkard, and I would spend days in drinking dens. I was well known, so I had an endless flow of drinks from patrons who knew my husband,” she said.
Red flags
According to Njeri, her husband started speaking about marrying a second wife two months after they started staying together.
“He’d tell me that he wouldn’t mind marrying a second wife. Then I would also tell him that I’d leave the marriage if he married a second wife,” said Njeri.
On August 27, 2023, Muigai wa Njoroge paid the dowry for his second wife, Queen Stacey, at a joyous ceremony held in Ndeiya, Kiambu County.

The three thrilled fans on Valentine’s Day in 2023 by showcasing a lovable and peaceful home.
“Good morning my friends. Today being Valentine’s Day, I would like to celebrate my girls. These two decided to make me happy, to be patient with me, to support me and to fight for me.
They chose us instead of being selfish, and bitter. Such people with such kind of hearts are few nowadays. May God help me to bring them honour and may they be blessed,” he wrote.
