Tuesday, September 13 has been declared a public holiday for purposes of the swearing-in of President-elect William Ruto.
Head of Public Service Dr Joseph Kinyua announced the holiday on Tuesday, September 6, adding that a gazettement of the same will be issued later this week.
Kinyua is the head of the Assumption of the Office of President Committee.
“The day of the wearing-in shall be a public holiday of general observance throughout the territory of the Republic of Kenya. The formal Gazette notice will be issued later in the week,” Kinyua said.
He also announced that the ceremony will be held at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, Nairobi, between 10 am and 2 pm.
“As per the law, this must take place anytime between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm and thereafter the deputy president-elect will also be sworn in,” Kinyua added.
Judiciary Chief Registrar Anne Amadi will administer the oath under the precedence of Chief Justice Martha Koome.

On August 12, the assumption committee held its inaugural meeting chaired by Kinyua.
In a televised address, Kinyua noted that he chaired the inaugural meeting, adding that the committee will be making periodic updates of the process.
He also stated that the swearing in of the president-elect will be declared a public holiday.
“The committee’s core mandate is to facilitate a smooth transition from the current administration to the incoming administration
“Substantively, the mandate of the committee will be triggered once the IEBC formally announces the results of the 9th August 2022 Presidential Election and declares a President-Elect,” Kinyua said.
Kinyua was accompanied by among others Attorney General Paul Kihara, Chief of Defence Forces Robert Kibochi and Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai.

Others were Interior Permanent Secretary Karanja Kibicho and Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Macharia Kamau.
