A dark cloud of grief and fury has engulfed the lakeside town of Bondo after the body of a 20-year-old JOOUST student Alice Rianga was discovered dumped in a thicket, ending days of desperate searches and unanswered calls.
The victim, identified as Alice Rianga, was a second-year student at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology pursuing a Bachelor of Education Science degree.
Police say she vanished last week after leaving her hostel room for the university’s main campus, only for her lifeless body to be found in the Barkowino area on Saturday.
According to investigators, the horrifying discovery was made by women collecting firewood in a bushy stretch on the edge of Bondo town.
What they stumbled upon was a chilling scene: a young life brutally extinguished and abandoned in silence beneath tangled undergrowth.
Suspect arrested
The case has since taken a dramatic turn after police arrested Maximillian John Madeni, a Tanzanian gold dealer believed to have been romantically involved with the student.
Detectives linked him to the murder after Rianga’s roommate reportedly identified him as her boyfriend.
Bondo Sub-County Police Commander Robert Aboki said preliminary findings suggest the student may have been killed elsewhere before her body was dumped at the scene.
The tragic loss of Alice Rianga, a promising Education Science student at JOOUST, has left a profound void in the academic community.

Detectives reportedly found no signs of a struggle in the area, deepening suspicions that the murder was carefully concealed.
Investigators also revealed that the body was found without undergarments, adding another disturbing layer to the unfolding probe.
As detectives piece together Rianga’s final moments, anger has erupted across the JOOUST community.
Students poured out grief and outrage, accusing authorities of failing to protect learners living off-campus.
Former student leaders warned that violence against students has become terrifyingly frequent, with fear now hanging heavily over the university town.
