Firebrand lawyer and political commentator Miguna Miguna has launched a blistering attack on French President Emmanuel Macron.
This follows the French leader’s controversial remarks at the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi.
Miguna’s furious reaction came after Macron abruptly interrupted a youth session at the summit and scolded attendees over noise in the auditorium, describing the disruption as “a total lack of respect”.
The French president walked onto the stage mid-session and urged those speaking in the crowd to either keep quiet or leave the room, remarks that quickly sparked debate online.
“Excuse me, everybody. I am sorry, guys. But it is impossible to speak about culture when these people, super inspired to come here, make a speech with such noise. So this shows a total lack of respect. I suggest, if you want to speak about something else, you go outside. If you want to stay here, we must listen to the people and play the same game. Thank you,” he said as he handed the microphone back to the presenters.
But it was Miguna’s sharply worded response on X that truly ignited social media.
“You have no right to speak condescendingly to Africans in their country and continent,” Miguna wrote in a fiery post directed at Macron.
He went further, accusing France and other European powers of centuries of “slavery, colonialism, exploitation, repression and racism” against Africans.
Shut up, @EmmanuelMacron: You have no right to speak condescendingly to Africans in their own country and continent. After hundreds of years of slavery, colonialism, exploitation, repression and racism by the French and other Europeans against Africans, you, a pathetic slave… https://t.co/vyAF1XJ8gp

In perhaps the most explosive part of his statement, Miguna branded Macron “a pathetic slave master” and insisted Europeans could not lecture Africans about respect after their colonial history on the continent.
The dramatic exchange has added fresh tension to Macron’s visit to Kenya, which is part of France’s wider attempt to rebuild strained relations with Africa amid growing anti-French sentiment in parts of the continent.
Analysts say Paris has increasingly sought partnerships with African youth, innovators and entrepreneurs as it tries to move away from the shadow of its colonial past.
Online, reactions to Miguna’s outburst were sharply divided.

While some Africans praised Miguna for challenging what they perceived as a patronising tone from Macron, others defended the French president, contending that he was simply advocating for order and respect towards the speakers at the summit.
