-Abraham Mgowano reportedly died after he fell from a yatch on the Miami River
-Mgowano worked as a software engineer for Google
The body of a Tanzanian Google engineer, Abraham Mgowano, was found on February 27 in the Miami River in the US.
Mgowano, who worked as a software engineer for Google, had been missing after falling from a 44-foot Sea Ray Cabin cruiser on Saturday, February 24.
The news of Mgowano’s falling prompted the Miami police to commence a search by air and even called on divers to search for him in the water.

The effort did not yield much in finding Mgowano. However, on Tuesday, police received a call about a body seen floating in the water.
Police said Mgowano was visiting from Berkeley, California, and his social media accounts showed he was a software engineer for Google.
Speaking to Azam TV concerning the incident, Mgowano’s sister, Mwajuma Mgambi, said his brother was having fun with his friends when the incident happened.
“He was in Miami for a friend’s bachelors’ party. There were 12 of them in the boat when Mgowano fell. He fell in a mushy area, and that’s why his friends were cautioned against diving into the water to save him,” she said.
Mgowano was born in Tanzania and received his early schooling in Dar es Salaam.
He attended Loyola High School in Dar es Salaam, where he completed Form 4 in 2006 before proceeding to Stanford University.
In a statement provided to 7News, friends of Mgowano said:
“Abraham, he was the greatest of all time. We call him genius; he had a big heart; he always loved us and showed us true love. Always unites us when he comes to Tanzania for a visit.”
Mgowano introduced himself as a software engineer on his LinkedIn profile, with a keen interest in front-end design.
“I am a software engineer; my Bachelors in Computer Science was focused on systems and computer graphics. I have also used my spare time to teach myself front-end design, something that I am really passionate about.”
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officials have taken over the investigation.
