It has now emerged that the five KCPE candidates from Arap Moi Primary School who drowned were top pupils.
The five; Godwin Kiprono, Anthony Kiptoo, Evans Koech, Abel Kipkemoi, and Caleb Cheboi, were the top students in the school.
Parents of the children wept uncontrollably as they tried to come to terms with their loss.

For the families, there are still unanswered questions regarding the occurrence.
“Caleb Cheboi was the third born son and he was index 4…ni uchungu tumempoteza, tuko na maswali hadi saa hii hatujui,” said James Cheboi, the late Caleb’s father.
“Niko na uzito maana nimepoteza aliyekuwa top 10 na tulikuwa na matumaini sana kama jamii ya Ainabkoi. Mtoto wangu aling’ang’ana kwa maji kuokoa wengine…alikuwa ananiambia anataka kuwa pilot,” his mother Susan Chepkurui added.

Parents were perplexed after it emerged that the 5 candidates who drowned were the top five students at the school, index 1-5.
“Sikutarajia nilete mtoto akiwa hai alafu nichukue akiwa hali hii, ni uchungu sana. Tunajiuliza mbona index one hadi 5 walienda hivyo,” Evans Koech’s father Laban Kipkoech lamented.
Education PS Belio Kipsang said the government will ensure Arap Moi Primary School candidates get good secondary schools since they sat their KCPE 2023 exams under distress after losing five of their fellow pupils.
The PS said the government will also give the school KSh 5 million to construct a dormitory in memory of the deceased.
The five pupils drowned during a school outing at Amazement Park, approximately six kilometres from the school.
Initial investigations suggest the ill-fated boast was overloaded when the tragedy occurred.
The owners of the resort have since been arraigned and are out on KSh 100,000 bond.
