The minor arraigned for the murder of Nairobi Hospital Acting Finance Director Eric Maigo claims the late raped her
The killing of Eric Maigo has taken a new twist after the main suspect claimed she stabbed the deceased in self-defence.
The 16-year-old suspect claims she was a victim of rape that pushed her to attack and stab the late Maigo.
Maigo reportedly picked the minor by the roadside after she was chased from her house after an altercation with her guardian.
The 16-year-old suspect was arraigned on Wednesday at the Milimani Law Courts. The court allowed the prosecution to hold the suspect for 21 days.
The minor will undergo both age and mental assessments over the said period before standing trial.

DCI sleuths are also seeking to establish whether she acted alone or under instructions.

Detectives believe the minor may have been working with other suspects, whom they expect she will name.
Approved school
Police further revealed the girl sat her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams at an approved school in Dagoretti, Nairobi County.
Approved schools are institutions that admit children who have been found guilty of committing crimes.
They admit children above 10 years and below 15 years.
DCI detectives, acting on a tip-off from members of the public, apprehended the suspect from her hideout in Kibra on Tuesday, September 26.
The video of the minor in court sparked debate, with netizens questioning, among other issues, her age and motive for the crime.

Maigo was found lying in a poll of blood in his house in Woodley on September 15. Postmortem results revealed he was stabbed 25 times.
CCTV video released by DCI showed a woman escaping from the home of the victim by scaling the razor-wire-perimeter wall.
