Janet Museveni must have some knowledge of marriage after being married to President Yoweri Museveni for 50 years.
The couple recently celebrated 50 years of marriage in the company of their children and grandchildren.
The memorable occasion was overflowing with the telltale signs of a couple who have endured many challenges and remained faithful to one another for 50 years.
In such a frame of mind, Janet Museveni provided priceless insights that, in her opinion, helped her marriage succeed.
And Janet Museveni’s message to women was simple: “Ladies, just let your husbands be.”
“I realised it is a blessing to have your spouse. And just give him peace. Just let him be.”
“What he wants to do, let him do. Because it is nothing.”
He said his marriage to President Museveni had lasted because she supported him and did not dig to find out what he was up to.
“He knows I don’t follow him around or pick up and exaggerate small things,” said Janet Museveni.
“Ladies, just let your husbands be. And remember: the Bible tells us not to go to bed angry.”
She further urged women to regularly forgive their spouses.
“Even if you had a disagreement during the day, just make sure that you don’t go to bed angry.”
President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and his wife, Janet Museveni, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, August 26.
They renewed their vows in front of their loved ones in a ceremony to mark their 50 years of marriage.
The best man and maid of honour were Museveni’s son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and his wife.
Their grandchildren made up the bridal team.
Following the exchange of vows, the Ugandan president thanked MamaJanet for helping him start a family.
He also thanked her for all the trouble she had gone through to raise their children while he was fighting to liberate Uganda.
“Maama helped me create a family, and I am very grateful for her contribution. I salute her for bringing up the children without my presence; her contribution to their upbringing has no comparison.
“She did it when I wasn’t there, and she didn’t even know I would ever return to their lives. I therefore thank God for my family, Maama Janet, the children, and the grandchildren,” Museveni said.

He urged Ugandans to always put their families before material possessions.
“I also told them to always differentiate between life and the facilitation of life. Whereas otherworldly things such as wealth, education, and professionalism are important, the real meaning of life is in the family and the marriage institution because it guarantees the continuity of humanity.”
