In recent years, it has come to be assumed that the annual Men’s Conference on February 14, also known as Valentine’s Day, is a made-up occasion established by men to avoid their partners.
Despite having a long list of responsibilities, the men use Valentine’s Day to discuss how to overcome obstacles in their families and achieve in life and relationships.
Valentine’s Day is a celebration that men are expected to participate in, but because of the many responsibilities they have, they have opted to give women an apology for their absence.
However, 2023 is a year of action, and journalist Stephen Letoo from Citizen TV was able to host a genuine Men’s Conference at Carnivore Grounds in Nairobi.
The event reportedly drew 500 people, far exceeding the expected 200.
Letoo has his sights set on the Men’s Conference leadership, which was formerly held by the late Jackson Kibor, a businessman from Uasin Gishu County.
“As you can see, Mzee Kibor’s reign has been marked by extraordinary events. I was made aware of the rising prevalence of men’s mental health issues when I stood up to assume this role. We broadcast incredibly depressing stories, such as the one about the father who killed his wife, kids, and himself.
“So I suggested that we start this debate that men are reluctant to have. We are holding the men’s conference in 2023 for that reason,” he said.
Despite Letoo’s efforts, however, netizens continued the tradition of humour at least by ensuring that the event remained at the top of the trend.
Social media was flooded with amusing images and memes of men attending a made-up, three-day men’s conference on Valentine’s Day.
