How and Where Wetangula Earned The Name Papa wa Roma

Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetangula’s nick name, Papa Wa Roma has been explained.

According to a supporter of the FORD Kenya party leader, Wetangula got the name from his supporters in the Western Region.

It is said that the politician was given the name due to his firm decision on political matters.

Most of people who have gone against his will and tried to oppose him have failed hence the name Papa Wa Roma.

“Kuhakikisha ya kwamba uongozi wake unaheshimiwa kutoka chini hadi kule juu; ni kama dini pale ambapo papa anapopeana peana mwelekeo katika ibada na watu wote wanapiga foleni kulingana na mwelekeo

“Na hivi kwamba tumejionea kwa kura iliyopita, wale ambao walienda kinyume na ratiba ya Papa Wa Roma waliona kilio, hiyo ndio kwa sababu hapa Bungoma anapopita wanasema Papa Wa Roma,” the supporter explained.

The immediate former Senator of Bungoma County was declared speaker after getting 215 votes out of the maximum 349, while his main rival, Kenneth Marende got 130 votes.

He was sworn moments after completion of voting and votes counting.

Following his election to the House, Wetangula will enjoy a huge salary and other perks that come with his new job.

The FORD Kenya party leader will take home a salary of KSh 1,160,000 including a KSh 250,000 house allowance and KSh 214,000 market adjustment.

Wetangula is also entitled to a KSh 10 million car loan and a mortgage of KSh 40 million on top of a KSh 25,000 monthly airtime allowance.

The new speaker of the National Assembly will also be provided with an official car with an engine capacity not exceeding 3000cc.

The car maintenance allowance will cost KSh 900,000 annually.

Wetangula is also entitled to a medical cover with his wife and up to four children enrolled as dependents.

This includes inpatient care of KSh 10 million, outpatient worth KSh 300,000 maternity of KSh 150,000, dental of KSh 100,000 and optical (KSh 100,000.

Also, Wetangula will be provided with an allowance at the rate of 31% of his monthly salary for every year served incase he loses his job.
