An IEBC official who was in charge of Gichungu constituency, Kirinyaga County in the just-concluded general election is dead.
According to reports, Geoffrey Gitobu died on Monday, August 22, under mysterious circumstances.
Sources privy to the unfortunate incident indicated that the returning officer collapsed and died with the cause of his death yet to be established.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is yet to issue an official statement on the same.
Thisncamer days after Embakasi East Returning Officer, Daniel Musyoka, was discovered dead in Kilombero forest, Loitoktok.
The deceased was previously serving in the area at the same capacity before being transferred to Embakasi East.
IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati had announced that Musyoka went missing while on duty at the East Africa School of Aviation tallying center.
This is despite having security.
“Reports received by the commission indicate that about 9 am, he was escorted from his house to the tallying center by his bodyguard
“At around 9:45 am, he excused himself to make a telephone call, but did not return to the office,” Chebukati said.
Police reports later indicated that Musyoka was kept in captivity after being kidnapped and later brutally murdered.

This, the police say, is because when his body was discovered, it was still fresh and still intact despite being dumped in an animal infested forest.
“We suspect the deceased was being held by his tormentors for a few days after his disappearance, only to kill him later
“If the body had been dumped the day he went missing, it would have begun decomposing or it would have been devoured by wild animals,” said Loitokitok Police Commander Shadrack Kiprop Rutto.
Musyoka’s body was discovered by herdsmen who informed the relevant authorities.
According to the Nation, his body was naked but a tracksuit and a Maasai shuka laid some distance from where his body was.

The body had fresh bruises on the neck and his lower limbs were swollen but had no visible injuries.
