Giant telecommunications company Safaricom has announced a system update on Monday, July 18.
In a statement on Saturday, July 17, the company announced that the temporary system update will affect all M-PESA services.
The company said the services will be unavailable on Monday night between 12:30 am and 1 am.
“As part of our systems’ investment, we will be carrying out a planned M-PESA upgrade on the morning of Monday 18th July 2022 between 12:30 AM and 1:00 AM. During this upgrade, all M-PESA services will be unavailable,” the statement said.
However, the company noted that other services including calls, data, and SMS would not be affected by the process.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your support as we strive to enable you to achieve even more through our innovations
“We are constantly investing in our systems to serve you even better, to provide you with additional innovations, and to support increasing customer growth and usage,” Safaricom said.
This came barely a month after the company introduced a code that will prevent fraudsters from swapping subscribers’ sim cards.
Safaricom came up with a Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) code that subscribers can use to whitelist their numbers.
One can dial *100*100# to lock your number from being replaced at an M-PESA agent without your knowledge.
This means one will have to visit a Safaricom shop in person with by your national identification card or by calling the company’s customer care numbers.
