Kilifi North MP Owen Baya was on Saturday, September 26 suspended by the ODM party after attending Deputy President William Ruto’s meeting.
In a statement through the party’s Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, the party accused the MP of switching alliances and teaming up with the DP.
Baya was also suspended as the Deputy Organizing Secretary of the National Executive Committee (NEC).
“Cognisant of the central role that the party’s NEC plays in the management of the party and the need to maintain the probity of its deliberations, the NEC resolved to suspend Hon. Owen Baya, the MP for Kilifi North from membership of this critical organ and from his position as the Deputy Organising Secretary given his recent utterances and conduct that have cast doubt on his commitment to this party and its onbjectives,” Sifuna said.
Sifuna further said that Baya is now free to proceed with his Tanga Tanga politics.
Baya was among leaders who attended a meeting held by DP Ruto on Thursday 24 September to strategize on the upcoming Msambweni by-election.
He is also reportedly supporting the DP’s preferred candidate, Feisal Bader, to replace the late Msambweni MP and ODM member Suleiman Dori.
