Kibaki views Moi’s body under tight security

Ex-president Mwai Kibaki on Sunday, February 9 viewed the body of his predecessor Daniel Moi at Parliament buildings.

In photos shared online, Kibaki is seen paying his last respects to Moi’s body which is lying in state at Parliament buildings.

Kibaki was driven into Parliament buildings at exactly 11:30 am and left the area at around 1145 am.

Before his arrival, a flurry of activities ensued including clearing the media and the public out of the building.

As a former Commander-In-Chief, Kibaki is entitled to VVIP treatment at any public event.

The former head of state was received by the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Samson Mwathethe.

Kibaki’s family requested privacy when the former president viewed the body of his predecessor, KTN reported.

In photos shared online, Kibaki is seen chatting with Moi’s family members, including sons Gideon Moi (Baringo Senator) and Raymond Moi (Rongai MP).

On Saturday, February 9 Kibaki’s office shared photos and videos of the former president signing a condolence book.

Kibaki has kept a low profile since he left office.

Moi’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 11 at Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi ahead of burial at his Kabarak home beside his late wife, Lena Moi on Wednesday.
