Frank Obegi: Slain Blogger’s Parents Claim Son Would Ask them Money for Food

The father of slain blogger Frank Obegi has said that his family is poor despite their son’s alleged lavish display on social media.

Obegi is among four people who were discovered dead in Kijabe Forest, Kiambu County on Sunday, June 19.

Speaking on Citizen TV, Evans Bowedo said the family owns nothing despite his son’s seemingly lavish lifestyle before he met his death.

Bowendo spoke from his Nyamira home where he stays with his family in a mud-walled house.

“As you can see, we have nothing here. Even bringing his body here from the city mortuary in Nairobi was not easy for us

“I am actually asking anyone who has access to the money he is alleged to own to also bring it to us so that we can use it for his burial,” he said.

On the other hand, Obegi’s mother, Beatrice Nyachae denied claims that his son has a lot of money as reported on the media.

Nyachae defended her son arguing that he was raised well and he was not involved in fraud as widely speculated online.

She also recalled her last conversation with her son, noting that he called asking for money but she did not have it.

“The last time we spoke was on Saturday, June 11 when he called me saying his phone was off and he wanted KSh 70, which I did not have,” Nyachae said.

In an earlier report on GOTTA.news, Bowedo admitted that he was curious about his son’s lavish lifestyle despite being a student at Multimedia University.

The old man said he last saw his son in February when he visited his rural home in Kisii and when asked about his source of income, the slain blogger said he earned commission from selling air tickets online.

“I thought my son sold air tickets online. That is what he had told me when he left home in February. But now that he has been found dead, I am also shocked what is it that made my son die the way he did,” Bowendo wondered.

Adding; “He had money. When he got the money you could see on his WhatsApp status he was in Mombasa, sometimes he was in an aeroplane. I asked him and he told me the money he has is usually commission from the business he was doing.”

Obegi was among four people who were tortured and murdered before their bodies were dumped in Kijabe Forest.

The bodies of Obegi and two of his friends were found dumped inside the forest on Monday, June 20 with the fourth body found dumped in Magadi, Kajiado County all with missing private parts.

The other three men are Elijah Omeka, Fred Obare and Moses Nyachae.
