Abenny Jachiga: Popular Ohangla musician dies

Health officials have launched a probe to establish the cause of death of Popular Ohangla musician Benard Onyango Obonyo known to his fans as Abenny Jachiga who died on Thursday, June 11.

His brother confirmed that Ministry of Health officials had taken samples from his body.

Reports have indicated that, Abenny passed away on Thursday, June 11 at around 2 am while undergoing treatment at St Jairus Hospital in Kisumu.

Abenny developed breathing complications at his home in Chiga, Kisumu East.

According to his brother Austin Omondi, the singer was first taken to a local hospital before being transferred to St Elizabeth Hospital.

After a close observation his condition did not improve and he was transfered to the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu.

The family could not afford the hospital and they requested to transfer him to an affordable facility, he was finally admitted at St Jairus Hospital where he died, his brother said.

The 33-year-old musician leaves behind a widow and two children – a son and a daughter.

His body was moved to the Port Florence Community Hospital mortuary.

Following his sudden death, on Thursday evening Abbeny’s fans flocked Port Florence Hospital to catch the last glance of the musician.

The high number of fans who turned rowdy forced the hospital management to lock the gates and call the police to calm the situation.

The fans clashed with the police and in the process the brought down a section of the hospital’s mortuary perimeter wall.
