People legally change their names for one reason or the other. You might choose to change your First, Middle or Last name at any time as far as it’s not for fraud purposes.
A married woman might choose to change her name and get her husband’s surname added to her official name.

Kenyans are permitted to change their official National Identity Card names Under the Registration of Documents Act.
Here is the process to legally change your name in Kenya.
1. You will be required to acquire a deed poll from the Registrar Generals Department and fill it the submit at their offices.
The Deed poll is a special a special document that allows one to legally change their names.
You can get a form from the Registrar Generals or download it online.
Note: It takes between 5-21 working days to produce Deed poll and your be required to pay KSh 500 fee.
2. You’ll be required to carry with you any of the following; marriage certificate, deed poll, sworn affidavits, birth certificate, copy of parents ID card, and confirmation letters from an administrative office.
3. You will then pay KSh 1,000 surrender the current ID
4. A registration officer will then sign form prescribed in the Fourth schedule and issued to the applicant.
5. A new photo of you will be taken which will be used in the ne ID.
6. Principal Registrar will then be given by the registration officer the application form and the surrendered ID and will be required to record the changes and cancel the previous National ID.
7. You will be given a new national ID after 60 days
