10 amazing photos of recently renovated Nyayo Stadium

The multi-purpose Nyayo National Stadium has finally taken a new shape after its scheduled renovation was completed.

The historic stadium was closed for renovations in 2017 after Kenya was chosen to host the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

However, Kenya was stripped of the right to host the championship due to poor preparedness.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) executive committee also raised concerns on the security situation in the country as the Supreme Court had just nullified the August 8 Presidential elections.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has twice in the past six months toured the 40,000-seater stadium to inspect the renovation process.

According to Bill Arocho who accompanied Uhuru in his latest visit to the sports facility, the Head of State expressed satisfaction with the progress of the renovations.

Arocho said that he inspected the seats, VIP dias, dressing rooms and other places that has been renovated.

He further said that Uhuru is keen on having images of Kenyan sportsmen and women around the facility.

“He wants to honour sportsmen and women by having their pictures inside and outside the stadium. They deserve it because they have brought great honour for the country,” he said.

Kinoru stadium in Meru and Kipchoge Stadium in Eldoret are also at different stages of renovations as they were also scheduled to host CHAN matches.
