Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has fired a warning shot to Jubilee Party members attacking Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Uhuru told them to “uphold respect and discipline”, or face expulsion.

The former Head of State, now the party’s chairman, delivered the rebuke during a delegates’ meeting at Thika Greens on Friday.

His tone was calm but unyielding. The frustration was clear.

“The habit of reacting to social media posts, claiming to defend the party but insulting Gachagua and others… I don’t want that behaviour,” he said.

“If I see anyone continuing with that behaviour, I will not hesitate to kick them out.”

The warning drew applause and murmurs. Uhuru hasn’t been active on party matters since leaving office in 2022.

Cracks in jubilee

His comments come as Jubilee faces deepening divisions. The party now struggles for identity despite being the powerhouse that brought him and William Ruto to power in 2013.

Since the fallout between its founding leaders, Jubilee Party has splintered into rival camps, some leaning toward government, others toward opposition alliances.

Insiders say Uhuru’s words were meant to silence growing hostility within the ranks. Social media, once a rallying tool, has become the party’s own battlefield.

Also, some say Uhuru could be championing for a united opposition to face President Ruto in 2027. Jubilee is fronting former CS Fred Matiang’i as its presidential candidate.

In the same breath, Uhuru urged Gen-Z to take up leadership roles and define their own future.

“Gen Zs must be given an opportunity to choose the Kenya they want to live in,” he said.
