Police deployed to calm protesting Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) students have been heavily criticised for using excessive force against the learners.
This is after several videos went viral online showing officers and residents raining rungu blows on students.
In one of the videos, three police officers are seen beating up an unarmed student lying on the ground.
The incidents have since drawn mass criticism, with Kenyans on Twitter urging the National Police Service (NPS) as well as the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to begin probe.
JKUAT’s senate on Monday resolved to shut down the institution and directed all students to leave the campus immediately.
