JKUAT unrest: 4 police officers caught beating up student identified

Four police officers captured on camera mercilessly beating a student during protests at Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) have been interdicted after public outcry.

In a press statement on Tuesday, November 12, Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai said the officers had been identified and are set to face disciplinary in accordance with police procedures.

“Further action and other disciplinary processes will follow the recommendations of the Internal Affairs Unit Investigation,” reads the statement.

JKUAT students went on rampage in Juja town on Monday, November 11 complaining heightened insecurity in the area.

Earlier, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i had condemned the incident and ordered that action be taken on the culprits within 24 hours.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) also said they have launched investigations into the incident.
