City lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has explained why he will not represent his ally, President-elect William Ruto in the presidential petition at the Supreme Court.
Taking to Twitter, the lawyer noted that he wished to represent Ruto in the petition but he was conflicted having represented President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2017 presidential petition.
Ahmednasir noted that since Uhuru is Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance chairman, he might object the move citing a breach of clients.
“I want but I can’t act for President-Elect Ruto in the Supreme Court. I’m conflicted. In 2017, I acted for outgoing President Uhuru against Hon Raila
“Now that Uhuru’s project (Hon Raila) is challenging Ruto’s victory obviously Uhuru will object & raise clients-Advocate privilege,” the lawyer said.
However, the lawyer noted that he will run a commentary of the case on Twitter and also predict the possible outcome of the Supreme Court verdict.
“I will run a Twitter commentary on the Supreme Court petition that will be filed by Hon Raila. I will appraise the strength and weaknesses of the case, the responses by the respondents and jurisprudential clues we should look for from the 7 judges. Will predict the decision,” Ahmednasir added.
In other news, constitutional lawyer Steve Ogolla has explained why outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta is yet to congratulate Ruto.
Ogolla said by congratulating Ruto, it might be interpreted as Uhuru is content with the outcome of the election.
However, the lawyer said if Uhuru speaks on Ruto’s win as the president and not the Azimio chairman it would not affect Raila Odinga’s dispute over the election results.
“He could say – at this advanced stage, the commission has made a declaration of the president-elect, I join them in congratulating him but this does not mean endorsement as finality – and create a balance, so that he doesn’t put Raila Odinga politically embarrassing situation

“But also he cannot overprotect Raila to the extent that he compromises the tranquillity and cohesion in the country,” Ogolla said.
