George Ruto: Is President’s Son the First Real Kalenjin Man to Own a G-Wagon?

If you’ve spent any time scrolling TikTok or YouTube lately, you’ve probably seen that joke – the one where someone claims, “Kalenjin men don’t buy G-Wagons.”

You could almost hear the collective gasps:

“Not even for steeplechasers? Not even after gold medals?”

Well folks, grab your chapatis and your tea – because the internet might just have to eat its words.

On Sunday, social media was set ablaze with pictures of George Ruto standing next to not one, but two black Mercedes-Benz G-Wagons.

Two G-Waggons, one mansion, zero small talk

The photos – shared by a car detailer who just finished buffing those luxury tanks – showed George with both machines parked in front of a rather fanciful mansion.

TikTok commentators promptly fell into debate:

Are these his cars? Or was he just admiring very shiny G-Wagons like the rest of us admire freshly baked mandazi?

Hard to tell. But what I do know is this:

  • One G-Wagon could fetch up to KSh 30 million, and the two together might be worth around KSh 60 million.
  • And while we sometimes see politicians’ kids with big rides and bigger entourages, this time George was spotted without any visible security detail – just him, his charm, and those glistening German SUVs.

So… First Kalenjin guy with a G-Wagon?

This is where things get fun. There’s a running meme online – especially on TikTok – that Kalenjin men (fast on the track, yes – but apparently slow on the SUV game) don’t typically pull up in G-Wagons.

Now enter George:
He strolls into the spotlight with a laid-back swagger, opens car doors for friends like a “mwalimu wa kindness”, and leaves keyboard comedians wondering if their whole stereotype just got G-wagonned.

Is he the first Kalenjin man to really own a G-Wagon?

Well, he might be the first one we’ve seen on TikTok with two side by side. (Leave room for others to flex later, George!)

From mood matatu king to luxe cruiser

But wait – this isn’t the first time George has shown he’s got range. Earlier online buzz celebrated his high-end matatu called “Mood” – a KSh 14 million party on wheels with DJ decks, air-conditioning (yes, air-conditioning in a matatu!), and bucket seats that put most cars to shame.

So, if you thought he only knows G-Wagons now, think again – George Ruto is fluent in both raw street culture and big-boy SUV culture.

The best part? he’s still George

What makes all of this genuinely entertaining – beyond the TikTok jokes about “Kalenjin men vs G-Wagon reality” – is George’s vibe.

Here’s a guy who:

  • Mingles with ordinary Kenyans,
  • Has been seen walking Nairobi streets casually,
  • He has even been tagged in videos riding matatus (yes, public transport!).

…yet still ends up in a luxury ride without forgetting where he came from.

Love him or tease him, George’s G-Wagon moment has given Kenyans a fresh meme – and maybe, just maybe, rewritten a stereotype or two.

So next time someone says, “Kalenjin can’t have G-Wagons!” just smile and reply:

“Have you seen George pull up?”
