A family in Elgeyo Marakwet County, along with friends and netizens, is struggling to come to terms with the death of Noah Kiptoo Kosgei, also known as Noah Stone.

Noah Stone, who was a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier, died while on duty in Garissa.

Reports circulating on social media claim Noah died on duty in Garissa, only days after arriving at the remote posting.

The KDF is yet to confirm the circumstances.

His family says they are yet to receive an official explanation, only the devastating news that their son was returning home in silence.

In Kamuseny, located in Elgeyo Marakwet, neighbours describe Noah Stone as a diligent, friendly, and soft-spoken young man who triumphed over adversity to don the military uniform.

Stone served in the National Youth Service (NYS) before being recruited into the KDF, graduating late last year.

Tributes from colleagues and online fans paint a portrait of camaraderie and concealed battles.

One wrote on Facebook: “We laughed and joked endlessly… Don’t tell me you took it by yourself.”

Another said, “You told me you’d been posted to Garissa… the memories still feel fresh.”

The emotional tremor has rippled beyond his village.

Elgeyo Marakwet community leaders referred to him as a “pillar of hope” and a symbol of possibility for young people grappling with insecurity and limited job opportunities.
