Why MPs Want DP Riggy G Removed from Office: ‘Stingy and Arrogant’

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is expected to appear in person in the National Assembly on Tuesday to defend himself against 11 grounds for his impeachment.

Gachagua’s lawyers are expected to provide a response to all the allegations levelled against the DP by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse.

Riggy G’s impeachment has baffled Kenyans, especially at how the MPs have united to remove the “truthful man” from office.

It has now emerged that the MPs have a personal grudge to settle with the DP. This is besides President William Ruto who doesn’t want anything to do with Riggy G.

An MP who spoke to Gotta News said the MPs were seeking to remove Riggy G due to his stingy nature.

“He is a man of means, yet he is very stingy. You go to him with a money problem…He will listen to you and then just say nothing,” said the MP who requested anonymity.

According to the MP, Gachagua’s stingy character contradicts that of senior state officers holding office of his stature.

Duale (as National Assembly Majority Leader) was very generous. Kimani Ichung’wa is striving manfully to fill his shoes. Even President Ruto’s men are very generous to politicians,” said the MP.

According to the MP, the confidential allocation to the offices of President and Deputy President is for such tasks.

“Due to the handout culture embedded in our politics, you must spend money to mobilise or buy political support. The other use of such money is to give to opposition MPs so they reduce making noise in parliament,” said the MP.

The MP said DP Riggy G has cut a figure of “a greedy man that eats alone.”

“It is easier to squeeze milk from a rock than it is to get a shilling from Gachagua,” said the legislator.

The legislator on his third term admitted the handout culture was the cause of ingrained corruption in government.

Last week Makueni MP Dan Maanzo said the impeachment plot was occasioned by Riggy G’s failure to dish handouts to MPs.

He claimed MPs backing Gachagua’s impeachment hated the DP for refusing to give them money from his confidential expenditure allocation.

“The MPs expected Gachagua to call them every Friday to give them something from the confidential budget. This is what the accusations are about.” Said Maanzo on Citizen TV’s Day Break program.

Riggy G is accused of grossly violating the Constitution. He is accused of encouraging tribal discrimination, and eroding national cohesion by making divisive public remarks.

Gachagua is further accused of going against government directives. He is also accused of neglecting his Deputy President responsibilities.

In addition, the motion alleges that Gachagua broke anti-corruption laws by engaging in money laundering, corruption, and abuse of office.

He is also accused of disobeying the President, intimidating public servants, and facilitating corrupt activities.
