Celebrated Nollywood actor John Okafor, aka Mr Ibu, is dead.
The actor passed away at age 62 at Evercare Hospital in Lagos on Saturday, March 2.
The actor’s family has yet to release an official statement.
The seriousness of Mr Ibu’s sickness became apparent after photos of the actor in a hospital bed leaked online in October 2023.
The actor was struggling with blood clots in his leg and other health conditions.
Mr Ibu underwent several operations, including one that saw one of his legs amputated in an effort to save his life.
“The first amputation (of his leg) didn’t completely correct his health predicament, so the doctors had to go ahead and amputate the same leg further to ensure we didn’t lose him,” his daughter, Valatine Okafor, revealed in December 2023.
Mr Ibu is one of Africa’s most celebrated comic actors, with many starring roles to his credit.
Okafor is known for witty movies that portray humour in daily events.
Prominent Nigerian actors, leaders, and netizens mourned the talented actor, with many recalling his humour.
