-Have you ever considered that the characters in Safari Ya Samburu are real individuals?

-Legendary East African band Les Wanyika travelled to Maralal in 1991 to perform for a nightclub opening

-The band went on to record a smash single featuring prominent figures like Bi Josephina and Doctor Maina

The Safari Ya Samburu hit instantly imprinted itself in the minds of listeners, portraying the town’s splendour and the kindness of its people.

It has recently come to light that the stunning Bi Josephina, also known as Miss Josephina, is still very much a sight to behold.

Bi Josephina recently discussed her relationship with the Les Wanyika band in an interview with NTV.

“The guys in the band really cherished me at first sight. I suppose it was my attractiveness,” says Bi Josephina.

“My father and I used to quarrel a lot because of my hedonistic attitude.”

“The police would often call him (my father) whenever boys were fighting over me,” she added.

Bi Josephina claims that she paid at the door on the actual day of the event and got admitted.

“The band members, however, ordered that I be given back my money. They informed me that I was their appointed host,” said Bi Josephina, who was 25 in 1991.

She claimed that in order to get her attention, band leader John Ngereza would dedicate songs to her during the memorable concert.

She revealed she would thereafter return to Nairobi with the band, where she stayed for several weeks.

Bi Josephina, whose true name is Josephine Ashoto, rose to fame in 1991 following the release of the hit song Safari Ya Samburu.

Now with 16 grandchildren, she observed,

“My fame from featuring in the song spread, and that’s how I got back with my husband, whom we had separated.”

Bi Josephina, 57, says she would like to see the band members once more.

She is currently a chef for the Samburu County government.

The song also mentions Dr Ernest Maina, a veterinary surgeon who described Josephine as a talented dancer.
