The internet is abuzz with excitement after a video of jubilant Israeli Defence Force (IDF) soldiers accepting gifts from Israeli civilians.

People can be seen tossing gifts at soldiers who are allegedly travelling to Gaza to fight Hamas millitants.

The soldiers are heard horning as they receive packs of snacks, water, and other consumables.

Part of the crowd raises the Israeli flag as the tank convoy moves on.

This comes as Israel intensifies attacks in Gaza on the second day of the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Palestinians have taken refuge in UN schools and camps, but many of those places are approaching capacity.

The camps also lack water, among other basic necessities.

In other news, people in Israel are still searching for their loved ones following the Saturday attack that saw at least 250 people killed.


The majority of those killed were attending a music festival on Saturday in the Negev desert near the Gaza fence.

Nine Americans are dead

The US has so far confirmed the deaths of nine Americans in the Saturday attack.

Who are Hamas?

Hamas in Arabic means “zeal” and stands for the Islamic Resistance Movement.

Hamas commands a huge support base in the Gaza Strip, a territory of about 141 sq miles.

The Gaza Strip is home to approximately 2.5 million people.

Hamas has been in full command of the Gaza Strip since 2007.

When was Hamas formed?

The Hamas started in Gaza in 1986.

Sheikh Ahmed Yasin and his aide Abdul Aziz al-Rantissi are its founding leaders.

Hamas started as an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and created a military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades.

The military wing aimed to pursue an armed struggle against Israel with the aim of liberating historic Palestine.

It also offered social welfare programmes to Palestinian victims of the Israeli occupation.

What made Hamas attack Israel on Saturday?

Hamas says Saturday’s attack was a response to crimes committed against Palestinians over decades.

“We want the international community to stop atrocities in Gaza against Palestinian people, our holy sites like Al-Aqsa. All these things are the reason behind starting this battle,” he said.

The outfit also called on other groups to join the fight, saying Saturday’s attacks were just the beginning.
