A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of his mother in Nyando, Kisumu County.
The suspect is said to have killed his mother under unclear circumstances and burnt her body inside their house.
Confirming the incident, Kochieng Assistant Chief Shadrack Awuor said Migingo Girls High School Deputy Principal Roselyn Nyawanda’s body was discovered on Sunday night, August 21.
According to a police report, the deceased was killed inside her house within the school compound on Saturday, August 20.
The suspect then dragged her mother’s body to the bathroom and set it ablaze; burning it beyond recognition.
It is suspected that the perpetrator stabbed his mother using a kitchen knife which was recovered beside the body.
“We found a kitchen knife alongside the body, though it didn’t have bloodstains, but we will investigation further and maybe the post mortem will reveal the cause of death,” Nyando OCPD Grace Mulwa said.
The suspect was found inside the house and taken in for interrogations.
He was detained at the Nyando Police Station.
It is said that the suspect is mentally unstable and a drug addict who has severally caused chaos at their home.

The body was taken to the Nyando County Referral Hospital mortuary.
