Zindzi: Nelson Mandela’s daughter dies at 59

Zindzi Mandela, the daughter of South Africa’s anti-apartheid luminaries Nelson Mandela and Winnie Madikizela Mandela is dead.

Zindzi, who was the South African ambassador to Denmark at the time of her death, died in Johannesburg on Monday, July 13 morning aged 59.

The death has been confirmed by a family source, South Africa’s national broadcaster SABC reported.

The cause of her death was not immediately revealed.


“The 59-year-old daughter of former president Nelson Mandela and struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, passed away at a Johannesburg hospital in the early hours of this morning,” SABC reported.

An Instagram account under the name of Zindzi Mandela’s son, Bambatha, posted a photo of Zindzi with the caption “Lala ngo xolo Madlomo”.

Zindzi was Nelson Mandela’s sixth child and his second with Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.
