We’re amending Constitution for our own benefit – Atwoli

COTU boss Francis Atwoli has sensationally claimed political leaders in the front line of supporting the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) will reap the benefits of constitutional amendments.

“ And let no one think all these governors, MPs and other leading supporters of BBI can rally behind other people and take a back seat,” said Atwoli, adding “ We’re making a Constitution for ourselves.”

The COTU boss who spoke during the Narok BBI rally said Constitutional amendments under the BBI will enable Uhuru Kenyatta to extend his stay in leadership so that he can complete his agenda.

“There is nothing ambayo itakataza Uhuru Kenyatta kuingia katika uongozi wa katiba mpya asaidiane na Baba (Raila Odinga) na viongozi wengine kumaliza agenda yake,” he said.

Atwoli, a bitter critic of Deputy President William Ruto has on several occasion said the BBI was carved to ensure the DP did not ascend to power in 2022.

On the other hand, the Tanga Tanga leaning MPs have criticised the BBI viewing it was a ploy to propel the ODM leader Raila Odinga to leadership.

They have also said the process borne out of Handshake between Uhuru and Raila was dividing instead of uniting the nation.

On Friday, February 21, Nakuru Senator Susan Kihaki slammed the process, saying it will leave the country more divided than before.

“Brothers & Sisters the BBI is a SHAM. It will leave Kenya more divided than ever before. It is quickly gaining momentum in Balkanizing our country and whipping up terrible tribal emotions. The BBI is BAD for Kenya! BBI is the greatest political CON JOB of our TIME. It’s a SCUM!,” wrote Kihika.

Kikuyu MP, a strong supporter of DP Ruto claimed the BBI rallies were podiums for spreading politics of of ethnic divisions.

“The politics of ETHNIC Balkanization is EVIL politics. BBI will NOT unite Kenyans by spreading HATRED and divisions along ethnic lines for politics sake,” he wrote on Saturday.
