Two brewers who were humiliated by their area Assistant Chief who poured illicit brew on them in Turbo constituency, Uasin Gishu county have broken their silence.

“I was making the brew so that I can help my kids, so that I can sugar and other household stuff,” she said.

The second brewer who identified herself as Viola Maiyo from a village within Turbo constituency said that the Assistant Chief leading the crackdown came to her homestead and did a search but found nothing.

However, the Assistant Chief was not convinced that she was not making the brew,  he took Viola’s jerricans from her store destroying them before pouring a brew that he had gotten from another homestead on her.

However, according to UasinGishu County Commissioner Abdirisack Jaldesa, the brewers make the illicit brew because of the profit that they get out of it.

“Those making the brew make them because of the quick profit that they get out of it, not because they are poor,” he said.
