1. The Cleopatra’s Needle

On this day in 1878, king George IV was offered the Cleopatra‘s Needle as a coronation gift by the Egyptians. The 21 metres tower that is inscribed in Egyptian hieroglyphics was made for pharaoh Thutmose III in 1460BC which means that the statue is over 300 years old.

2. The Daily News 1846

Celebrated author and journalist Charles Dicken published the first edition of his newspaper, The Daily News in 1846.

3. 1982, Martial Artist and film Actor Jet Li

On this day in 1982, the movies Shaolin Temple is released  featuring Hong Kong’s young actor Jet Li. Li made his debut in the international market following a number of Chinese based moves including his first movie called Once Upon a Time in china.

Jet Li was born in August 26, 1963 as Li Lianjie in Beijing. At the age of 11 years he won the national championship in Wushu and continued following in martial arts until he was 17 years when he joined acting.

4.  Barrack Obama re-inaugurated

Following the public inauguration on January 20, 2008 it was reported that there were small issues in wording of the oath. On January 21, Barrack Obama took the oath a second time inside White House in a small ceremony to correct the wording of the initial document.

5. Black Monday, 2008

Following the end of Martin Luther day, worldwide stock markets began facing challenges. FTSE 100 recorded the biggest one day fall in history with the European market recording similar drops and the Asian market going down by 15%. This marked the beginning of 2008 economic recession in the world.
