Deputy President William Ruto has accused his political opponents of plotting to revive his case at the International Criminal Court, Hague to stop him from contesting in 2022.
DP Ruto said he had spoken to a senior National Intelligence Service (NIS) official who disclosed the plot to finish him politically.
“ I had a discussion with the Director General of NIS late last year and he told me there are characters who have already sent people to Kenya to resuscitate the ICC case against me,” said the DP in an exclusive interview with NTV.
“ They are looking for witnesses to revive the case because they are making every effort to stop my candidature.”
The crimes against humanity case against the DP collapsed in 2016 after prosecutor Fatou Bensouda said she did not have enough witnesses to successfully prosecute the case.
He said the plan was receiving back up from senior officials in government who were out to secure their interests.
“Every time there is succession politics, there are games and there are cabals and people in government offices in hope they can install people who can serve their interests and not people’s interests.”
The DP said the revival of the KSh 272 land case which saw him acquitted was part of the wider conspiracy to taint his image.
The DP however vowed to remain focused in supporting Uhuru Kenyatta to attain his legacy maintaining his opponents’ plot will fail.
