Babu Owino granted KSh 10 million cash bail, banned from drinking alcohol in public places

Embattled Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has been released on KSh 10 million cash bail.

Owino is required to deposit KSh 2.5 Million before he’s released from Industrial Area Prison. The court directed the cash bail to be paid in four installments.

The court said the money will be used to settle the hospital bill of victim DJ Evolve.

Babu has also been banned from engaging in narcotics or alcohol in public places until the case is heard and determined.

Earlier in the day, Milimani Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi who is handling the case was on Monday morning forced to adjourn the case involving  after some of the MPs supporters went rowdy in court corridors.

The noise from the members of the public made it difficult for proceedings to go on.

Owino is facing attempted murder charges in an incident where he shot DJ Evolve at B Club.

Prosecutor Jacob Ondari who was making his submissions to await calm to resume in court.

Earlier, Ondari had asked the court to deny Owino bond, on grounds relatives of of DJ Odhiambo Orinda, popularly known as DJ Evolve, whom he is accused of shooting, said he is in critical condition.

Also, the family expressed fears that the MP will interfere with witnesses once released on bond.

However, Owino’s lawyer Cliff Ombeta asked the MP to release the MP on court on on account he had right to bond like any accused person.
