Chaos ensued at Migori County Assembly on Wednesday morning, September 23 after MCAs clashed over the planned tabling of impeachment motion against Governor Okoth Obado.
According to reports, the chaos ensued after MCAs supporting Obado tried to eject North Kanyamkago MCA George Omamba a member supporting Obado’s impeachment from the Speaker’s seat.
Omamba had been impeached as the Deputy Speaker in May 2019 but was reinstated on Monday following an order by the High Court.
In the melee, Nominated MCA Mary Ogodo had her hand broken and rushed to St Joseph Mission Hospital.
“She is in hospital, her left arm has been broken and she is receiving treatment. She can’t talk right now. She is in stable condition,” a source said.
It took the intervention of police officers to quell the violence.
Omamba adjourned the Assembly without indicating whether he intended to reconvene members at 2.30 pm.
Speaker Boaz Okoth was reported to be in Nairobi.
