Man shot dead after being caught vandalising guard rails along Outer Ring Road

One person was shot dead after he was allegedly found vandalising Outer Ring Road in Nairobi’s Eastlands.

A statement by Kenya Urban Roads Authority on Tuesday, March 10 detailed the dead man was in a group of five found vandalising the road. One of the vandals was arrested while three escaped with gunshot wounds.

According to the statement, the five were found cutting the guard rails at Nairobi bridge along Outering road, Kariobangi at 2am on Sunday, March 8.

Kariobangi OCS David Ole Shani while confirming the incident described the suspects as part of a cartel mowing down street lights and vandalising roads equipment in Nairobi.

“These are among the big cartels mowing down street lights and removing road furniture in this part of the city and we will bring them all to book,” he stated.

Commending the police for their action, Kura noted that 40 street poles valued at KSh 7 million had been removed by vandals since January 2020.

“I wish to commend the police service for their quick action and enhanced surveillance on our roads.

“We shall not rest until this vice is eliminated in our society and people respect public utility services,” stated acting Kura Director-General Silas Kinoti.

The arrested suspect will be arraigned before the Makadara Court and charged with endangering the lives of citizens in addition to road vandalism.

Members of the public have been advised to report more cases of vandalism as this is not the first time such an incident is happening.

The authority promised KSh 100,000 to anybody with information that would help them nab the vandals.
