Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has been released hours after he was arrested by officers from National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) on Tuesday, February 25.
The senator will be arraigned March 4 on hate speech and ethnic contempt charges.
The fire-brand senator was arrested in regards to remarks he made during the Narok Building Bridges Initiative rally which have been heavily criticised.
Addressing press moments after being released, the vocal senator claimed Deputy President William Ruto was behind his arrest.
Earlier, his lawyer George Wajackoyah claimed his client’s arrest had been orchestrated by his political enemies.
“ He should be set free to go home. If the offence is so much heinous, the Constitution allows for bail. It seems as if we’re drifting back to the previous regimes where people were incarcerated to settle scores,” he said.
This comes days after the fire-brand MP said the land in Maasai dominated counties belonged to the community and no one was allowed to buy it and make profit through small subdivisions which he said impeded farming.
The senator further said outsiders should leave political seats to natives.
