Kibra by-election: Kirinyaga Woman Rep Wangui Ngirici wants Shebesh summoned for campaigning for ODM’s Imran Okoth

Kirinyaga Woman representative Wangui Ngirici has slammed Youth Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rachael Shebesh for engaging in Kibra by-election campaigns.

Ngirici who was speaking in Tharaka Nithi during Inua Mama tour of the area on Friday, September 27 said it was wrong for Shebesh to fight the Jubilee Party which had given her the appointment as CAS.

Shebesh who is rooting for ODM candidate Imran Okoth in the Kibra by-election race has been telling residents that Imran enjoys backing of both President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

On Friday, the CAS raised a furore in Jubilee circles after claiming Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga does not enjoy the support of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The woman rep vowed to lead an effort to have Shebesh summoned by National Assembly to explain her conduct which contravenes the Public officers code of ethics.

Ngirici said Shebesh’s actions contravened the Public Officers Ethics Act which requires public officers shun political involvement.

The position you occupy is courtesy of the ruling Jubilee. And all you do is fight us who were elected on the party that appointed you,” Said Ngirici.

“ We’re going to crack whip on people who are appointed by government to serve the public but instead choose to engage in politics,” said Ngirici.

Section 16 of the Public Officers Ethics Act requires public officers shun engaging in any political activity that may compromise or be seen to interfere with the neutrality of their office.
