Rift Valley regional Commissioner George Natembeya has put contractors behind stale projects stating that they will be arrested and charged.
The tough talking government official during an interview at NTV stated that it is time for Kenyans to value their money.
He also said that his office is aware of lazy contractors behind millions of money projects paid to them but end up leaving them unfinished.
“We are aware of many projects whose completion are yet be finalised…some are at 40% or 70%…those at 90% for instance cannot offer services to the citizens and as such there is no value for money,” Natembeya said.
Natembeya disclosed that they have started going round the Rift Valley in such of contractors with the mentality of conning innocent Kenyans.
“We have a history where projects are seen to have been completed on paper but when you visit the sites, things are completely different. So when a contract is awarded, we are now able to monitor closely in order for it to be completed within the scheduled period,” he said.
The commissioner revealed that the monitoring team has checked over 1,200 sites in the region.
According to him they were so far satisfied with the progress with finding only few challenges.
“If however, we come to your site three or four times and find that no progress has been made since the last visit, then we will just arrest you…we have not time to waste as you are the one who applied for the tenders,” he cautioned.
