Expose my alleged corrupt practices – Wako dares US govt

Busia Senator Amos Wako has dared the US government to expose specific accusations of corruption that saw him being banned from entering America.

Wako accused the US government of witch-hunt dismissing the ban story as “a tired one. Nothing new”

The ex-AG who maintained he was clean said he had been banned 10 years ago and did not see the logic “Why are they issuing another one yet there is an existing travel ban?”

“I’m confident of my own integrity and I’ve nothing whatsoever to hide. So, let them disclose it (corruption accusations) to the people of Kenya,” said Wako during a press conference.

The former attorney general further said failure to disclose the allegations will “put into question their (America’s) rhetoric in fighting corruption.

On Monday, November 18, The US government banned the Busia senator, his wife Flora Ngaira and son Julius Wako from setting foot in the United States of America over involvement in graft.

”Today, the Department designates former Kenyan attorney general Amos Sitswila Wako due to his involvement in significant corruption,” read a statement signed by US Secretary of State, Michael Pompeo.

On Wednesday, Wako slammed the US for banning his wife and son saying they were not involved when he was discharging his public duties.

“ Even if I committed corruption, I should be punished personally for my sin,” he said.

Wako was Kenya’s fourth attorney general for 20 years, serving from May 13, 1991 to August 26, 2011.

He was elected Busia senator on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket in 2013 and was reelected in 2017.
